My Father was born  George Albert Snowdon on the  08th Jul 1918 .

My Uncle , Charles William Nicholson  was born on Wednesday the 29th of August 1917.

They were both born in a small Village 1.5 miles from North Shields, its name Percy Main, In the County Borough of Tynemouth Northumberland.  The name was derived from the Duke of Northumberland who is named Percy.  The Main, is a name for a coal-pit, which had disappeared by the time they were  born.

My Father was married to Charles Williams sister Edna , my father followed his two older brothers into the Tyneside Shipyards becoming an Apprentice Electric Welder .

Charles Williams Father Died when he was 10 years old , so life was really hard for his widowed Mother bringing up five children on her own .His first job was working for a Boot Repairer , as it turned out this was going to help him in the time he would spent as a Far East Prisoner Of War, with the 9th Battalion the Royal Northumberland Fusiliers.
